London Hots up for Top Poker Month in August

When it comes to poker, London is the place to be in August with a series of great festivals that will keep avid players at the tables almost every day of the month.

The month kicks off with the WSOP® Super Circuit festival which runs July 27 to August 13. There are then just a couple of days off before GUKPT London gets underway at the Poker Room at the iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino from August 17-27.

WSOP Super Circuit
Sponsored by GGPoker, the 18-day WSOP® Super Circuit festival is making its London comeback in August after a break of some 13 years. WSOP Super Circuit London will feature 15 official Circuit ring events from July 27 to August 13 and is offering more than £7 million in tournament guarantees.

The WSOP Super Circuit London festival is taking place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, right next to Hyde Park and a stone’s throw from many of the capital’s top tourist attractions.

The second half of the WSOP Super Circuit London schedule looks particularly appealing with a £3 million guaranteed WSOP Super Circuit Main Event. There are also two High Rollers on the menu – a £2,200 event starting August 7 with a £250,000 guaranteed prize pool, plus a £5,300k High Roller tournament starting August 12 and boasting a £500,000 guarantee. The Hyde Park location for the WSOP Super Circuit London is ideal for those who want to combine playing poker with an ace city break -  or just playing more poker! Not only is the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel perfect for London sightseeing, but it’s also walking distance from two fantastic venues for playing poker: the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square and the Poker Room at the iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino in Edgware Road.

GUKPT London

UK players will be very familiar with the latter venue – the Poker Room at the Vic hosts dozens of top events and is home to GUKPT London and the GUKPT Grand Final.

GUKPT London is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the GUKPT calendar. The festival is taking place August 17-27 and will be the tour’s second visit to the capital this year. At the first leg back in January, Jonathan McCann scored his biggest ever live cash by taking down the £1,250 buy-in Main Event for £89,122. McCann will be raring to go next month after a very successful trip to Vegas where he finished 12th in the WSOP Monster Stack for $71,225 and 531st in the WSOP Main Event for another $35,000. He is also currently lying third in Grosvenor’s National Poker League.

The flagship £1,250 GUKPT London Main Event starts on August 24, the highlight of a festival that will include the £340 Mini Main tournament, a new £560 Midi Main event, the £550 GUKPT Cup, a £1k PLO High Roller, a £3k Super High Roller, a £200 Seniors tournament and numerous satellites. The Main Event features three starting flights – including a Day 1c turbo – with three entries allowed per flight. All players will receive a 20,000 starting stack with late registration open until the start of Day 2.
