Weekend Ladies Event at Goliath 2023

A top-class women’s event is planned for this summer’s Goliath festival in Coventry, kicking off on the first weekend of the festival.

The 2023 Ladies Event, which is taking place from July 29-30, features a £110 buy-in with unlimited re-entries and 30-minute levels. It’s the second year that the tournament has played out over two days. 

Grosvenor Ambassador Katie Swift, who will be hosting the event, is passionate about women’s poker and has put her heart and soul into encouraging as many women as possible to take up the game. She runs a weekly £11 NLH game on Grosvenor Poker for women, with the top 14 players in the leaderboard earning tickets to compete in the online National Poker League satellites each month. The game has £500 added value for the top 14 places plus, in addition, the top four get to compete in an online sit and go with the winner scooping up tickets worth another £1,250. It’s amazing added value!!

Players can pre-register for the Goliath Ladies event via the Grosvenor Poker lobby or in person at any Grosvenor casino. This year’s Goliath festival is taking place from July 27 to August 6 at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Midlands with a Main Event prize pool expected to top £1 million.

The packed schedule, which features more than 20 tournaments, has put the Goliath Ladies Event centre-stage; it’s one of the very few ladies-only events taking place anywhere in the world that is played over multiple days and Day 2 of the event will be live-streamed. Katie Swift has designed the generous structure which, says Katie, is designed to give participants a good poker game first and foremost. Players start with an increased chip stack this year of 20,000 and play a 30-minute clock throughout, with unlimited re-entries up to the end of Level 6.

Katie said: “I’m very excited about this year’s event. There were 219 entries last year which is quite astonishing. I am very proud of the work I do; my goal is to create a really great inclusive community for female players so they can compete against each other but also support each other. Ladies room-share, arrange lunch meet-ups beforehand, discuss poker & generally have fun & enjoy the event. 

“Goliath is also the perfect networking opportunity. Women make lots of new friends at this event, and that proves valuable for future tournaments and travel. I’m proud to have created a platform that not only encourages women to play, but also provides the confidence to travel to play as a result of the networking and friendships formed. I can’t wait to see lots of ladies join in the fun in Coventry this year – and battle it out to crown the new female champion!”

Katie’s online weekly game is every Wednesday at 8pm and is password-protected to ensure only females enter. The password is posted on the female-only Katie Swift’s Poker for Women Facebook group each week.

The winner of last year’s Goliath Women’s Championship was Emily “Riskitforabiscuit” Glancy (pictured on the final table) who is well-known in the UK poker community. She topped the record field to snag a career-best live score of £5,865 along with the prestigious title and coveted trophy. 

The Goliath Ladies Event starts on Saturday, July 29 at 4pm with Day 2 resuming at 2.15pm on Sunday, July 30 and broadcast on the live stream.
