Live Reporting - Day 2
Day 2 of Olympic Park Casino Ended Level: 28 Blinds: 50,000/100,000 Ante: 100,000
Riku Koivurinne Wins Event #7: €1,100 PLO 4&5 (€41,200) Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 22:32(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Finland's Riku Koivurinne navigated through a record-breaking field of 198 entries in the two-day Event #7: €1,100 PLO 4&5 Cards at Olympic Park Casino.
While Koivurinne didn't start the day with many chips, he quickly moved up the ranks before eventually capturing the chip lead from runner-up Jan Holte. He displayed aggression at the correct times for a commanding performance en route to winning the WSOP Circuit Gold Ring and the free ticket to the $1 million guaranteed WSOP Tournament of Champions next summer, where he will play for a matching WSOP gold bracelet to go along with his newly earned ring.
Koivurinne had a 4:1 chip advantage to start heads-up play against Holte. Holte battled back before nearly evening the stacks before the duo agreed to a deal guaranteeing Koivurinne €33,700 and Holte at least €32,500 with still €7,500 to play for. Koivurinne went on a tear to quickly close things out from there to win his first taste at WSOP gold.
€1,100 PLO 4&5 Final Table Results
The €1,100 PLO 4&5 broke Estonian poker records for the largest international PLO tournament prize pool, with 198 runners generating a huge €190,800 prize pool. The top 23 players earned at least a min-cash valued at €2,200 for exactly double the €1,100 buy-in. The event was live-streamed at OlyBet.tv with WSOP Circuit Tallinn commentator George Sandford leading the way.

Final Table Action
Holte began the final table with the chip lead with more than double the stack of his nearest opponent in fellow Norwegian Lars Romundstad. Eventual winner Koivurinne was near the bottom of the pack with 12.5 big blinds to start the day.
The action was hot and heavy from the start, with several of the short-stacked players making moves. The first six times a short stack committed their stack resulted in a double-up, with the seventh time resulting in a triple-up.
However, everything settled down after that, and the momentum went to the big stacks. Romunstad lost several big pots and was low on chips when he chipped up by eliminating Denmark's Gisle Olsen (pictured above) in eighth place for €6,000.
From there, it was all the Koivurinne story as he eliminated the rest of the field in what turned out to be a commanding performance.
Koivurinne ousted the popular Finn Jussi Mattila (fourth - €15,400), Lithuanian cash-game guru Stanislovas Vinicenka (fifth - €11,900), Finland's Sami Paananen (sixth - €9,280), and Latvia's Renars Stepins (seventh - €7,350) all before the first break leaving just three players remaining.
After the break, Koivurinne served a small bad beat to Romundstad, which resulted in him collecting a €20,800 prize and having a commanding 4:1 chip advantage to start the heads-up action.
Koivurinne's momentum, which was on display from the start, temporarily died down as Holte won a few smaller pots before doubling through the chip leader to nearly even the stacks.
The duo asked for a short break to discuss a deal, which was agreed on quickly. After that, it was back to the Koivurinne show, with the Finn relentlessly applying pressure before sealing the deal by allowing his opponent to bluff into his full house.
Congrats to Riku Koivurinne for an epic win in the 2024 WSOP Circuit Tallinn Event #7: €1,100 PLO 4&5 for €41,200. Stay tuned at OlyBet as tomorrow we hop into the Main Event and the two-day €1,100 Mystery Bounty ring event.

Level 28: 50,000/100,000 (100,000) Entries: 1/198
The tournament ended in a flash as Holte's stack vanished the very next hand to exit in second place for €32,500.
Riku Koivurinne opened for 300,000. After posting the big blind, Holte had only 400,000 in his stack and jammed in for the extra chip. Koivurinne called, and Holte needed some help.
Jan Holte: Riku Koivurinne:
It wasn't the aces or kings that got the job done. Instead, it was a full house beating a flush for Holte to exit just one spot shy of the ring after the ran out on the double-paired board.
Congratulations to Riku Koivurinne for winning the 2024 WSOP Circuit Tallinn Event #7: €1,100 PLO 4&5 at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Tallinn Park. Stay tuned for a recap of the day.

Lars Romundstad: Riku Koivurinne:
The , on the turn, flipped the tables with Koivurinne holding a better two-pair, and Romundstad was eliminated in 3rd place for €20,800 after the river completed the board.
Koivurinne will start the heads-up battle in the driver's seat with quadruple the stack of the start-of-the-day chip leader Jan Holte.

Holte improved to set on the flop with Koivruinne having a pretty nut-flush draw and an inconsequential top pair. Both players checked before Holte bet 175,000 on the turn before the river brought a third diamond onto the board.
Holte checked. Koivurinne bet 600,000 and got Holte to fold the best hand.

Jussi Mattila Eliminated in 4th Place (€15,400) Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 17:33(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Level 27: 40,000/80,000 (80,000) Entries: 3/198
The tournament tells its own story. The first seven all-in and call situations led to short-stack players doubling or tripling their stacks. This was followed by the reverse situation, where the last five times this occurred, a player walked to the cashier for their payout.
Popular Finnish player Jussi "Potti-Jussi" Mattila has appeared at many final tables at Olympic Park Casino and had many supporters hoping he would earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring. Mattila showed his heart, but in the end, he ran out of chips just one place shy of the podium after the following hand against Riku Koivurinne.
Koivurinne opened for 210,000 from the button before Mattila defended his big blind. Mattila checked the flop. Koivurinne fired out for a pot-sized bet of 540,000. Mattila jammed for 695,000, and the cards were tabled after Koivruinne called for a few more chips.
Jussi Mattila: Riku Koivurinne:
Mattila had a decent draw but bricked the turn and river to exit in fourth place for €15,400. The final three podium players each locked up a minimum of €20,800.
Meanwhile, the tournament witnessed the first lead change at the final table, with Koivruinne having a final table high of 2.6 million.

Level 26: 30,000/60,000 (60,000) Entries: 5/198
The eliminations are coming at a fast and furious pace with Stanislovas Vinicenka the next to go in fifth place for €11,900. Vinicenka committed 210,000 of his 250,000 stack from the cutoff before Riku Koivurinne put him in for the rest from the big blind.
Stanislovas Vinicenka: Riku Koivurinne:
Koivurinne improved to two pair on the runout. Vinicenka was unable to come up with anything better and headed out of the tournament arena. Despite not getting a ring, Vinicenka came into play with crumbs in his stack and managed to ladder up a few spots for a bigger payout.

Sami Paananen Eliminated in 6th Place (€9,280) Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 17:13(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Level 26: 30,000/60,000 (60,000) Entries: 6/198
It was a total of seven times the short stack survived to start. However, it has been disastrous for the short stacks since then, as for the third time in a row, a committed stack led to elimination.
Jan Holte opened for 200,000 from under the gun before Sami Paananen jammed his stack of 275,000 from the big blind. Holte called for the additional crumbs and Paananen was flipping for his tournament life.
Sami Paananen: Jan Holte:
Holte won the hand with two pair after the runout to eliminate Paananen in sixth place for €9,280. The final five players each locked up at least a €11,900 payout.

Renars Stepins Eliminated in 7th Place (€7,350) Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 17:08(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Level 26: 30,000/60,000 (60,000) Entries: 6/198
Momentum has turned the other way for the short stacks as they have started to lose their stacks instead of doubling (or tripling) their stacks as was the case earlier.
Renars Stepins bet 210,000 out of his 380,000 stack from under the gun. Riku Koivurinne effectively three-bet jammed from the big blind and Stepins called off the rest of his stack.
Renars Stepins: Riku Koivurinne:
Stepins wasn't able to get any love to push him ahead of his opponent's aces on the runout and headed to the cashier to collect his seventh-place prize of €7,350.
The final six players now each secured a minimum of €9,280.

Level 26: 30,000/60,000 (60,000) Entries: 7/198
After six doubles and one triple, a player finally ran out of gas in Denmark's Gisle Olsen.
Olsen fired out a pot-sized bet from early position for 210,000 with just 60,000 behind. Lars Romundstad three-bet shoved for 415,000 from one seat over and Olsen called off the rest of his stack after the rest of the table folded.
Gisle Olsen: Lars Romundstad:
Olsen had a decent holding but fell to Romundstad's trip deuces after the ran out on the board.
Olsen earned the eighth-place prize of €6,000, while the final seven each earned a payout ladder and will take home at least a €7,350 prize.

Holte improved to Broadway on the flop and got Koivurinne to fold his flush draw after betting 395,000.
The flush would have came for the side pot on the turn but the main pot was destined to go to Olsen from the start with the river improving him to a full house to triple his stack.

The double-up theme continued as now the shorter stacks are six-for-six after Sami Paananen doubled through Stanislovas Vinicenka as follows:
Vinicenka opened for 150,000 from the small blind. Paananen three-bet shoved for 230,000, and Vinicenka called.
Sami Paananen: Stanislovas Vinicenka:

Vinicenka Doubles Again Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 16:27(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Level 24: 20,000/40,000 (40,000) Entries: 8/198
It's been an unbelievable run for the short stacks with five doubles and no eliminations taking place during the first blind level of the final table. Stanislovas Vinicenka was the first to double twice.
Lars Romundstad opened for 125,000 from the cutoff before Vinicenka defended his big blind.
Vinicenka checked before he called off his stack of 305,000 after facing an effective jam by Romundstad.
Stanislovas Vinicenka: Lars Romundstad:
Both players had trips with the same nut-kicker. However, Romundstad had better equity with the flush draw. The turn changed the outcome instantly as Vinicenka improved to a full house and only a two outer for an ace on the river would lead to a chop.
The river did push Romundstad to a flush. However, this wasn't enough, and Vinicenka, after starting the day with crumbs, was in the middle of the pack.

Vinicenka's Turn to Double Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 16:09(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
Level 24: 20,000/40,000 (40,000) Entries: 8/198
There have been three players thus far that have committed their stacks, and so far, it has been three for three for the shorter stacks.
Lithuania's Stanislovas Vinicenka bet 140,000 of his 155,000 stack from the hijack and was called by Denmark's Gisle Olsen from the big blind.
The fest of the chips went in on the flop.
Stanislovas Vinicenka: Gisle Olsen:
Vinicenka flopped trips, and that was all it took to double his stack after the turn and river completed the board.
Meanwhile, Gisle Olsen finds himself short on chips after previously doubling Renars Stepins before now doubling Vinicenka.

Sami Paananen was down to under three big blinds when he jammed for 110,000 from the button. Riku Koivurinne didn't have a great hand but the price felt right for him to call.
Sami Paananen: Riku Koivurinne:
Koivurinne was ahead after the rainbow flop and Paananen needed an ace, king, ten, or nine on the river after the turn in order to survive.
The timely river saved the day for Paananen who doubled his stack through Koivurinne instead of becoming the first player to his the rail.

Jan Holte Kicks Off Event #7: €1,100 PLO 4&5 With Substantial Lead Posted Thursday 25th July, 2024 at 12:57(UTC+3) by Jason Glatzer
The €1,100 PLO 4&5 broke records in Tallinn for a €1,100 buy-in Omaha event. On its opening day, 198 entries generated a €190,800 prize pool.
The start time of Day 2 was pushed back to 2 p.m. as the action went late into the night until 2019 WSOP Europe 8-Game bracelet winner Espen Sandvik hit the rail on the official final table bubble in ninth place for €5,100.
The final eight players locked up at least €6,000, with much more to come as the payout ladders count at this game stage.
Norway's Jan Holte (pictured above) holds a substantial lead on the field, more than double his nearest opponent with 2,295,000. This is good for 57 big blinds to start, with the action kicking off with 28 minutes remaining on Level 24 with blinds at 20,000/40,000 with a 40,000 big blind ante. Blinds will be 30 minutes long after Level 24 is completed until a winner is crowned.
Norway is favored to win this event based on opening chip counts. The only other chip millionaire to kick things off was Norway's Lars Romundstad, who catapulted his 30,000 opening stack into 1,070,000.
Three Finns are in the mix, but none with huge stacks. Long-time Olympic Park Casino player Jussi "Potti-Jussi" Mattila tops the Finnish charts with 695,000, with Riku Koivurinne (505,000) and Sami Paananen (210,000) coming in a bit shorter.
Also in the mix are Denmark's Gisle Olsen (670,000), Lithuania's Stanislovas Vinicenka (255,000), and Latvia's Renars Stepins (240,000).
Anything can happen in PLO, especially during the five-card rounds. So no lead is safe in what promises to be an exciting day with the players vying for the €44,500 and the coveted WSOP Circuit gold ring. Additionally, the winner will be invited for a chance at a WSOP bracelet for free in the $1 million guaranteed Tournament of Champions Freeroll next summer.
George Sandford will be commenting on the action with various guests throughout the day at OlyBet.tv. You will also get updates on all the biggest hands at the final table on the OlyBet blog.
Best of luck to all the players, and stay tuned with reporting starting at around 2:30 p.m. local time when the action kicks off on the stream.
