Marta Porter Won the 2023 Queens of Tallinn Main Event Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 22:35(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

When the final table of 2023 Queens of Tallinn started here right after 1 pm today Marta Porter had more than half the chips in play. But as she said late last night after day two finished; everything can happen in poker and you never know what might happen.

Marta, who already won one event here in Tallinn and already had a silver necklace, told me how she came into this weekend with a mindset that she would trust her gut feeling. And so she did all the way and if you look at the results she made here that was a winning concept.

Marta could have used the huge chip advantage here today to just put pressure on the short-stacked players constantly but just like she said yesterday she followed her instinct. If you watched the livestream you saw how that instinct made her fold correctly most of the time and let go of hands instead of gamble. She played small ball poker instead of getting her opponents all-in for a coin flip several times.

One by one her opponents were eliminated from the table but with the amazing structure the tournament had there was still room for plenty of play even if you were unfortunate and were one of the players with the shorter stacks so the final would last for almost five hours before Marta was crowned as the winner after beating Estonian Catlin Muur.

And after realizing she had won the very last hand with a flush she didn't even see at first she burst into tears of happiness. The well-renowned poker player Catlin surely had more experience but the first thing he did after losing the last hand was to walk over to Marta and give her a huge hug and you could really see how happy she was for her new friend's victory. It's like the saying: "Real queens fix each other's crowns" and this poker festival was exactly like that. There were never any bad feelings, or anyone yelling apart from cheering after winning an important hand or taking that seat in a satellite to one of the tournaments.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that Marta Porter was a truly worthy winner of the Main Event. Apart from winning the €6,167 in first prize, the beautiful golden necklace goes with the one she won in Event #6 NLH/PLO Mix. And it didn't even stop there. She and her team FLIP (together with Daiva Byrne and Michelle Bricknell) chopped first prize in the Team Challenge with Team FinEst (Anne Bedeck, Christel Haller, and Catlin Muur). What a weekend she's had. A huge congratulations to Marta but also to our runner-up Catlin and both of their teams winning the Teams Challenge.

Catlin Muur Eliminated in Second Place (€4,050) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 19:48(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

In the very last hand of the day, both queens found a queen in their hand and a good, suited connector to go with it and decided to get all the chips in the middle.

Marta:
Catlin:

The flop put Catlin at risk but the turn gave Marta even more outs with the flush draw and when the came on the river Marta didn't even see that she hit the flush and it was Catlin who had to tell her she actually won and Marta burst into tears of joy and couldn't believe it. I had to wait for quite a while before I was able to even take her winner shots without all the mascara running down her cheeks but it was worth the wait. A huge congratulations to both players. For her second-place finish, Catlin Muur received €4,050.

Straig Against Straight puts Marta in the Lead Again Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 19:29(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

Marta and Catlin saw the flop which gave both players a little bit of each. Marta had a flush and straight draw with her while Catlin flopped a pair and a straight draw with her . Turn was the and yet again there was a bet from Catlin and a call from Marta. On the river both players hit a straight but Martas was higher. After a bet from Catlin Marta pushed all-in and got an instant call from her opponent.

That was a big hit for Catlin and we are back with Marta in the lead with 1,2 million and Catlin has 725,000 on the blinds of 15,000/30,000 (30,000). 40 versus 24 big blinds to play with.

Catlin Doubles with a Full House Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 19:04(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

After about five hands into the heads-up, the two queens got all the chips in the middle before the flop with Catlin at risk. And after the showdown, we had a classic coin flip.

Marta:
Catlin:

The flop wasn't helpful to either player but the on the turn sealed the deal and gave Catlin a full house. The river didn't change anything and Catlin raked the 1,1 million pot and started to stack her chips as her fanclub on the rail went bananas dancing and cheering her on.

It's cheerful and a lot of laughter both at the table heads-up but also from all the people gathered to see the tournament crown its queen

Indre Martoviciute Eliminated in Third Place (€2,740) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 18:36(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

To sit for many hours at a final table and not pick up one single hand worth its name takes a lot of patience and Indre surely was the one with the most patience of everyone today. The best hand she had all day was pocket eights and then it was folded all the way to her big blind.

With three players left and blinds as high as 10,000/25,000 and a big blind ante of another 25,000 every orbit ate a huge chunk of her stack until she finally pushed her chips in from the button with . Marta thought about it for a while but decided to fold but Catlin in the big blind called with

The board ran out and nothing helped our second-last Lithuanian player at risk Indre Martoviciute was out in third place and received €2,740.

Marta Takes Back the Lead Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 18:11(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

Very often slow playing good hands can be very expensive but this time it surely paid off for Marta when she decided to just call from the small blind with . Catlin checked her option from the big blind and the two saw the flop . Marta checked, Catlin bet 80,000, and Marta called.

The turn came and once again Marta just checked her top pair and Catlin bet another 80,000. Marta just called. River came and this time Marta was the one leading out 125,000. Catlin didn't take long until she decided to call with her second top pair with in her hand.

Catlin Takes Over the Lead Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 18:10(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

It hasn't been a final with a lot of spectacular hands in the meaning of Aces versus Kings and those sort of hands. And its safe to say that the players had to be very creative most of the time because I don't think we've seen so little "big hands" since the final started here right after 1 pm today. Obviously this has also been a huge benefit for Marta who's had the stack to put maximum pressure on her opponents and also forced them to fold better hands just because of the money jumps and others having smaller stacks.

But that would change now. On the very first hand back after the break as Catlin looks down on the "cowboys" in small blind after Marta raising from the button with . Two amazing hands three handed and possibly a huge pot.

Marta raised and was reprised by Catlin and decided just to call in position. The flop came with the very dry and Catlin led out 125,000. Marta called and the two saw the on turn which gave Marta the nut flush draw and several more outs. Catlin bet another 415,000 which really put pressure on Marta who took a long pause before she decided to let it go.

That hand made Catlin take over the chip lead from Marta.

Chips During the Break Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 18:01(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

As I earlier said. No matter how big your advantage is. In poker everything, and I mean exactly everything can happen and just look at what the chip counts are now after the three remaining players return from their 15-minute break.

Everything you need is a chip and a chair and we've seen that happening so many times during this festival and now everyone who watches the livestream could see it too. Catlin went from less than five big blinds up to 675,000 and is closing in on the so far unbeatable Marta.

Four women from Lithuania entered the final eight today and with three left two of them still remain in the competition to take down that juicy first prize and golden necklace.

Marta Porter still holds down the fort just like she has since they were two tables left yesterday and hasn't looked back yet.

Blinds are now 10,000/25,000 (25,000)

Catlin Muur Starts to Build Her Stack Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 17:44(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

Home player Catlin Muur only had 95,000 left in her stack as she pushed all-in with which was less than five big blinds. Indre folded in the small blind and Marta looked down on "ducks" (pair of deuces) but decided to fold.

Some might think that's an instant call but like Marta told me yesterday she's been following her gut feeling from the very first tournament she played here in Tallinn and since she already won one tournament we won't argue with her decision because so far her sixth sense has been very beneficial and she surely don't want to give her opponents the chance to double and prefers to be the one who puts pressure and also playing small ball poker.

But a few hands later the two ladies would get their chips in the middle and that was after a raise to 50,000 from Catlin from the button and a call from Marta in the big blind. Flop came down and Marta checked to Catlin who announced she was all-in (135,000). Marta instantly called and we had a showdown:

Marta:
Catlin:

Five outs for Marta to eliminate Catlin from the tournament but on the turn and on the river wasn't any of them and Catlin's Estonian Fanclub who stood by the rail cheered and started to sing as Catlin made a little victory dance at the table and got up to a way more comfortable stack of 400,000.

Hanna Heinlo Eliminated in 4th Place (€1,940) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 16:57(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

Estonia's Hanna Heinlo had given the image of being pretty tight on the table but if her opponent would have known which hands she had pushed with I'm pretty sure they would have called earlier. That made her pick up a few pots by going all-in without any callers even though her opponents had some decent hands.

Eventually, she was caught with her hand in the jelly jar after Marta raised the button with and Hanna pushed 219,000 from the small blind. After some consideration, Marta made the call and as Hanna turned over her she was actually ahead.

The flop surely didn't help Hanna as both players hit their ace kicker which reduced her outs to only one with two more cards to go (as we saw Catlin folding another seven on the live stream). Turn and river wasn't that card she so well needed and they were down to only three.

Hanna Heinlo played so well during the tournament and had a lot of patience as she didn't pick up any decent hands choosing the right opportunities to pick up the blinds to stay alive. But it's hard to create magic when the Gods of Poker aren't with you when you need them to be. We hope that she's happy with the €1,940 she picked up for her fourth-place finish.

Huge Advantage for Marta with Four Players Remaining Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 16:41(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

With four players left the chips are divided as follows:

Marta Porter: 1,3 million (60 BB)
Indre Martoviciute: 310,000 (15 BB)
Hanna Heinlo: 159,000 (7 BB)
Catlin Muur: 155,000 (7 BB)

As you can see. Marta continues with her huge lead as the play continues with the blinds of 10,000/20,000 and BBA of 20,000.

Michelle Bricknell Eliminated in 5th Place (€1,480) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 16:22(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

The dynamic of the final table in the Main Event was really something extra. First of all, Marta Porter had 51 percent of the chips in play going into today's final. Then the fact that several of the players from the team challenge were in the same teams in the final made it all even more thrilling. And then we have the seat draw which obviously always is made random but it placed Marta in the middle (seat five) with both the mid-sized stacks and the short stacks on both sides putting a lot of extra pressure on every decision anyone made here.

Two of the players on the same team was Michelle Bricknell and Marta and obviously both of them wanted to make it as deep as possible to collect more points for the team but that didn't seem to stop them from getting into hand against each other.

With five players remaining and the blinds 10K/20K (20K BBA) Marta made a raise from UTG with and Michelle called from the small blind with . After the flop reading it was pretty obvious what was going to happen. Michelle with her straight and flush draw and Marta with her cowboys.

Marta c-bet to 45,000 and Michelle didn't put much thought into it before she announced she was all-in for 246,000. "I have to call you", Marta said and turned over her kings and Michelle really needed one of all the outs she had available to stay in the tournament. Turn wasn't one of her outs and neither was the and she was sent to the cashier to pick up the €1,480 she got for her fifth-place finish.

Giedre Valgemae Eliminated in 6th Place (€1,190) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 15:10(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

Giedre Valgemae had been finding herself short for a while and had the worst position at the table with the huge chip leader Marta Porter right behind which didn't give much room to make any moves.

Eventually, she decided to push in her chips from the big blind with against Indre Martoviciute in the small blind who unfortunately had . And the flop didn't help much and gave her opponent even more leverage. Turn and on the river wasn't any of the outs she needed and Giedre was out in sixth place for a €1,190 payday.

Justina Andriukeviciute Eliminated in 7th Place (€940) Posted Sunday 3rd December, 2023 at 14:28(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

It's been good boards running out for our shorter stacks at the final table so far and we've stopped counting on how many double-ups it's been here and there for the past few hours.

But eventually Justina Andriukeviciute couldn't find as much luck when she had pushed her chips in from small blind being called by Indre Martoviciute in the big blind.

Evely Pihela surely has had a rollercoaster start to the day here. First, she lost almost all of her chips to Michelle Bricknell with versus all-in pre-flop. A ten on the turn and Evely was down two big blinds.

Then a few hands later she doubled up in a five-way pot with pocket fives and managed to get at set on turn. And now, after a double-through Giedre Valgemae with versus she finds herself on a more steady soil with ten big blinds in her stack.
