Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez Wins WSOPC Tallinn €1,500 Main Event (€100,350) Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 20:06(UTC+0) by Jason Glatzer

Spain's Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez made history on Sunday after winning the inaugural Event #6: WSOP Circuit Tallinn €1,500 Main Event for €100,350 after defeating Sweden's Emil Hovmark heads-up at the plush surroundings of Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park.

The stacks began to become short with six players remaining with the initial final table leader Akseli Paalanen still holding the lead when they agreed to a deal with €5,100 left to play for along with the coveted WSOPC Tallinn gold ring and an invitation to the $1 million guaranteed 2024 WSOP Tournament of Champions freeroll in Las Vegas.

Everything began to go Gonzalez's way after the deal as from that point forward, it was relatively smooth sailing en route to the title as he eliminated each of his final five opponents.

"I feel very happy," Gonzalez said after the win to OlyBet.tv. "It was a complicated tournament but after the deal it was easy... I ran very good. The flips came to me and now I am the winner."

Gonzalez has called Tallinn his home for quite some time and is part of a budding Spanish expat poker community which also includes the likes of two others at the final table in Adria Comas I Roura and Jesus Ucero.

The €1 million guaranteed WSOPC Tallinn Main Event was a grand success with 719 entries battling it out for four days. The top 87 players cashed for at least a min-cash of €3,050 for more than double the €1,500 buy-in.

Final Day Action

Finland's Akseli Paalanen (pictured above) began the final table of nine players with a substantial chip lead with the eventual winner Ignacio Garrido Martinez near the bottom of the pack.

Paalanen maintained his composure and never let go of the chip lead as he sent Jesus Martinez Ucero (seventh - €26,150), Mario Linno (eighth - €21,550), and Jun Beum Chun (ninth - €17,700) to the rail in succession to start the day.

Blinds were getting shallow during six-handed play and all six players agreed to discuss a deal. Paalanen was the clear chip leader at this point and asked for €1,000 more from each player. After that, the deal was agreed and the action moved on with still plenty to play for including the prestige of winning the first-ever WSOPC Tallinn title.

Paalanen's stack began to fall apart very soon after the deal was agreed. He first doubled up Adria Comas I Roura when his ace-jack didn't hold against ace-six. This hand will be remembered by many for a while as three sixes flashed their way onto the board for Roura to snag the first lead change at the final table.

Roura's good fortunes were short-lasted as he soon went from hero to zero. Artur Kulanurk delivered a bad beat for his tournament life when his deuces pulled ahead of Roura's cowboys. Kulanurk helped himself to the rest of Roura's stack when his ace-queen suited held against ace-eight for Roura's day to end in sixth place for €86,550.

Kulanurk's day in the sun was also short-lived. Gonzalez soon took a huge chip lead and never looked back when Kulanurk committed with ten-six with an open-ender on the turn and doubled up his opponent with Gonzalez holding aces.

Gonzalez was the new table terminator as shortly after he eliminated Mairo Tori (fifth - €92,050) when his ace-four held against queen-jack.

A rare double elimination took place shortly after. Paalanen jammed his crumbs with nine-six before Kulanurk came in over the top with king-ten suited. Gonzalez woke up with ace-queen and took out both players. While Kulanurk finished in the higher spot of third place for €84,050, it was Paalanen who had even more reasons to celebrate as he won the most money in the event thanks to the deal with an impressive €141,850 prize.

Martinez held more than double the stack of his opponent Emil Hovmark, who was unable to get anything going. Hovmark eventually three-bet jammed his king-jack suited and settled for finishing one player shy of winning the event along with a healthy €75,010 prize after not pulling ahead of Martinez's queens.

Congrats to Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez for his epic victory in the 2023 WSOP Circuit Tallinn Main Event. Thank you for joining us and see you next time at Olympic Park Casino.

Emil Hovmark Eliminated in 2nd Place (€75,100) Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 17:21(UTC+0) by Jason Glatzer

Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez jammed the button for more than the 9.2 million Emil Hovmark (pictured below)  had in his stack. Hovmark quickly called and needed some help.

Emil Hovmark:
Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez:

King-jack suited is a tasty heads-up hand but he ran into a monster. Normally the flop would have been a monster. Gonzalez though improved to a full house to eliminate most of those outs to a flush or a straight but there was still a sweat for both players with Hovmark drawing to two outs to a straight flush or royal flush with two cards to come.

Neither the turn nor the river provided any magic for Hovmark and he was eliminated one player shy of the title in second place for €75,100 as part of the six-way deal instead of the originally scheduled €137,250.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez managed to collect the extra €5,100 to bring his total haul to €100,350. While this is not as much as fourth-place finisher Akseli Paalanen collected with a €141,850 prize, he still made out well and in addition to the prize will forever be known as the player to win the inaugural WSOP Circuit Tallinn Main Event gold ring.

This is not all, as Gonzalez also will be invited to battle it out for a bracelet for free at the 2024 WSOP Tournament of Champions freeroll with $1 million in prizes on the line.

Congrats to Gonzalez and all of the final table players. Stay tuned for a recap of the Main Event.

Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez eliminated two players coming into the following hand. He doubled that with four eliminations by taking out both Artur Kularuk (pictured above) in third place and Akseli Paalanen (pictured below) in fourth place.

Paalanen jammed for 675,000 from under the gun. Gonzalez called from the button before Kulanurk three-bet shoved for 3,300,000. Gonzalez called that as well and put two players at risk.

Akseli Paalanen:
Artur Kulanurk:
Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez:

Gonzalez was already ahead but further improved to two pair on the ran out on the board to eliminate Kulanurk in third place for €84,050 for slightly less than the pre-deal third-place prize of €84,200 and Paalanen in fourth place.

Paalanen will be the big money winner collecting €141,850 instead of the €64,100 thanks to previously agreeing to a six-way deal.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez will kick off heads-up action with more than double the stack of Emil Hovmark in the hunt for the coveted ring, the invitation to the $1 million guaranteed 2024 WSOP Tournament of Champions bracelet event freeroll, and the €5,100 in cash left to play for.

Akseli Paalanen was dominating until a deal was made. His stack began to fall apart and now it has crumbled into crumbs after losing the following hand to Emil Hovmark (pictured below).

Paalanen jammed for 5.8 million from the button before Emil Hovmark called off his stack of 5.2 million.

Emil Hovmark:
Akseli Paalanen:

Paalenen was still alive after the flop and the turn was a Yahtzee card as it gave him both a flush draw and a gutshot to the straight on top of his jack still being alive. The river was safe for Hovmark but disastrous for Paalanen who will have some work cut out for him to get the coveted ring that he earlier appeared destined to earn.

Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez has become the new table terminator as he just eliminated back-to-back Estonian players. This time, Mairo Tori (pictured below) hit the rail in fifth place for €92,050 thanks to the six-handed deal agreed an hour ago instead of the €48,750 prize that would have been awarded if no deal had been agreed.

Gonzalez jammed from the small blind and Tori called off his stack of 3.8 million from the big blind.

Artur Kulanurk min-raised from the button with before Ignacio Garrido Gonzalez opted to simply call with his from the big blind.

Gonzalez check-called a bet of 1,000,000 on the flop. Kulanurk didn't complete his open-ender on the turn and Gonzalez checked again with the best hand. Kulanurk bet 2,800,000. Gonzalez jammed for 5,200,000 and Kulanurk went into the tank.

Eventually, Kulanurk called and Gonzalez needed to fade just six outs with only two aces and four nines to stop him from doubling his stack.

The blank river completed the board and Gonzalez doubled into the chip lead.

Welcome to Queens of Tallinn Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 16:33(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

After all of the successful festivals over the years with the Kings of Tallinn, it's now announced by the tournament organizers that we will have The Queens of Tallinn in late November. A festival series for only women with a €350 Main Event and several other events to go along with it.

Just like the Kings of Tallinn, the WSOP Circuit has been beyond anyone's expectations with stunning branding all over Hilton Park and Olympic Casino. The Queens of Tallinn will bring exact same feeling to the players who attend with a streamed final table from the Main Event and world-class tournament staff like it always is with this organization with the well-renowned Tournament Director Teresa Nousiainen in charge.

Together with Teresa, and Christer Larsson who's the Olympic Entertainment Group's Poker Director, they are just finishing all the details for this festival. We got to have a talk with Christer as the Festival was announced during the Ladies Event here in the WSOPC on Saturday.

Christer Larsson and Teresa Nousiainen

"It's about time someone does something like this. It feels nice to give something back to all the fantastic women in this industry and to create a festival for them," Christer said after receiving a big round of applause from everyone in the grand ballroom as the two made the announcement.

The Queens of Tallinn Festival will be held here at Olympic Casino and Hilton Park from November 30th to December 3rd and will be just as fantastic as all the festivals we've had here for a number of years now. There will be a €350 Main Event with a live-streamed final table alongside three or four side events. All Events will be for women only but for the gentlemen who want to come along there will be a €60 side event and also a cash game weekend down in the casino.

Ave Lepik who won the Queens of Tallinn here during the WSOPC

It's fair to say that we already know this will be a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone who decides to join as both Christer and Teresa are two of the best in the world when it comes to arranging festivals that give it's players that little bit of extra from the minute they enter the building until they leave.

Spain's Adria Comas I Roura had the chip lead just moments ago. He took a horrific bad beat against Estonia's Artur Kulanurk when his kings were no good against deuces before dusting off the rest to the Estonian to give him his first chip lead.

Roura jammed from the cutoff for 5,300,000 and was called by Kulanurk from the big blind.

Until the deal was made, Akseli Paalanen stayed as the chip leader throughout the final table and also was the "table terminator" after ousting the first three players.

That trend unfortunately for the Finn ended on a bad beat as Adria Comas I Roura (pictured below) nearly hit the rail but instead took the chip lead.

Paalanen min-raised from the button. Roura three-bet jammed for 4,200,000 and Paalanen called.

Toomas "Stablecoinflip" Orm Wins OnlyBet Online Event #10 (€9,087) Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 12:20(UTC+0) by Lina Olofsson

On Friday, Event #10: €350 NLH OlyBet Online Event was held here in WSOPC Tallinn but this time it wasn't at the Olympic Casino. It was actually online at OlyBet making it possible for players not to be able to attend this fantastic festival to compete and lay their hand on one of these beauties.

The €50,000 Guaranteed Online Event kicked off at 8 p.m. Friday night and attracted 124 entrants with 20 players cashing in this event. Up to this date, this is the single biggest prize in the OlyBet-exclusive tournament.

One hour into the tournament Toomas "Stablecoinflip" Orm decided to join the action and registered and this would turn out to be a very good decision as he ended up winning the whole thing. We got a chance to sit down and have a little chat with our latest Ring Event winner as he came into the Hilton Park and Olympic Casino to take his winning shot.

Great Start of Turning Pro - Again

Toomas Orm used to play professionally up until ten years ago but after a few hard years, he decided to stop and took a job as a salesman. It wasn't until the end of last year as he had a good run he decided it was time to give it another shot going pro again.

"I have two daughters and that makes you think differently at these things but as this year started I had built my bankroll up and felt comfortable to do this as a profession again," Orm explained.

This was the second €350 buy-in ring event he played during the WSOPC Tallinn as he also entered another event live here at the Olympic Casino. Even though Orm mostly plays no-limit hold'em tournaments online, he has $12,745 in live tournament winnings according to The Hendon Mob and one of his biggest tournament cash wasn't in a hold'em but instead in a pot-limit Omaha event in Malta earlier this year.

"I never play PLO but it was the very last day and I was bored so I took a shot in the very last tournament they had," Orm shared. "That was a Pot Limit Omaha and that was the first time I ever played it. When we were at the final table I started to feel a bit stressed though since it was really late and I had a flight to catch at seven in the morning."

Orm thought he'd have to book another flight back home to Estonian but eventually, they decided to make an ICM chop of the remaining prize money with five players left giving him the most money for €1,800, and as soon as he cashed out he ran off to the hotel, picked up his bag and took a cab to the airport where he came to the gate three minutes before the boarding closed.

But it's safe to say that playing on home soil is where he has his best track record with two big live cashes here from February earlier this year in the Main Event of the Estonian Championship finishing fifth for €3,600 and being runner up in the same championship in a Shootout tournament for another €2,278.

Five Bet Jam on Kosk Took Orm to the Lead

Back to the Online Ring Event the other night he started rocky and thought his days were counted but after first a double up and then a triple up he described the rest of the tournament as very smooth sailing. As he ended up at the table with his fellow Estonian countryman Ermo Kosk the latter tried to push him around but after a hand where Orm five-bet jammed against Kosk with only queen-jack suited and got away with it, he knew this was his tournament.

"I had some really nice rivers," shared Orm. "I was such an underdog and didn't even look at the screen as the board ran out several times but each time I looked up and magically survived. I screamed so many times so I was really happy my family wasn't home."

Loves to play Small Ball Poker

When half the field remained in the tournament Orm amassed a massive lead and as they entered the final table he still had a huge advantage. When the action whittled down to the last five players he had half the chips in play and then he was certain he would take it down as the others only had around ten big blinds each.

But when they started playing heads-up he was actually for the first time giving up his lead a few times but managed to get back up on the horse and when they were even in chips the two players decided to make a deal where they secured €9K each, left the ring and the WSOP Freeroll in Vegas up for grabs.

Even though the deal was made the Heads-up would last for an hour.

"I love playing small ball poker and that's exactly what we did," Orm shared.

At three o'clock in the morning his experience and his strategy with the small balling paid off as he was crowned as the winner.

It's safe to say that Orm has had a very nice return to the poker scene since he decided to take it up and make it a living again and now he has a trip to Vegas to look forward to next summer.

Perhaps the Cinderella story for South Korea's Jun Beum Chun has begun as he just doubled up through Ignacio Garrido as follows with a timely hand from the big blind where he was likely pot committed to call with any two cards.

Garrido jammed 1,600,000 from early position. Chun, who only had one big blind behind after posting the big blind and ante, made the quick call.

Jun Beum Chun:

The only saving grace here for Garrido is that he is fortunate stacks weren't deeper with both players improving to trips on the flop. The turn and river allowed Chun's queen kicker to come into play to win the hand and double his stack.

Tori Rivers Flush to Leave Chun With Crumbs Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 11:50(UTC+0) by Jason Glatzer

Jun Beum Chun min-raised with from under the gun and was called by Mairo Tori with from the cutoff.

Chun bet 400,000 with his overpair for two pair on the flop. The flop was tasty for Tori as well and he called with a flush draw.

The turn was safe for Chun and he fired out for 800,000. Tori went into the tank with his flush draw and overcards. A couple of minutes went by before he called.

The river completed Tori's flush. Chun jammed and Tori checked his cards before he called.

It has been a great start for Tori who despite losing some of his short stack early on rebounded with two big double-ups to just be behind Akseli Paalanen for the chip lead.

Meanwhile, fortunes were reversed for Chun who began the day in second place. He ran an unsuccessful bluff against Jesus Ucero to go down to the middle of the pack. Now, he will need a Cinderella story as he only has crumbs in his stack after an untimely river against Tori.

Who Will Win the €1 Million Guaranteed WSOPC Tallinn Main Event? Posted Sunday 24th September, 2023 at 08:58(UTC+0) by Jason Glatzer

The time is here and the mission is clear. Nine players from five different countries all with one goal in mind as the day we have all been waiting for is here with the final table of the 2023 WSOPC Tallinn €1,500 Main Event set to kick off on Sunday at noon at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Tallinn Park.

Despite many deep runs by players from Finland including final tables where the majority of the players were Finns, they have noticeably failed to win a ring. While three rings will be awarded today, the Finnish poker community and players from around the world will be keeping their eyes on the sole Finn remaining in the Main Event Akseli Paalanen (pictured aboe), who dominated yesterday's Day 3 to position himself as the clear chip leader at the final table with 10,675,000.

South Korea's Jun Bum Chun should bring some viewers to the live stream of the final table from a continent away as he is just behind Paalanen with 6,875,000.

The home country of Estonia could prove to be a lively rail with three local players including Artur Kulanurk (4,550,000), Mairo Tori (1,500,000), and Mario Linno (1,175,000).

The local community is not only represented by players from Estonia as three players from the sizeable Spanish expat poker community living in Tallinn also found their way to the final table including Jesus Martinez Ucero (3,450,000), Adria Comas I Roura (2,275,000), and Ignacio Gonzalez Garrido (2,200,000).

Sweden's Emil Hovmark (3,250,000) rounds out the final table in what promises to provide some great action with an average big blind stack of around 40 big blinds.
