The action was buzzing at Olympic Casino Vilnius with a strong start to the OlyBet Vilnius Showdown Jacks of June €555 Main Event with Day 1a attracting a banner crowd of 169 entries to cover more than half of the €150,000 guarantee.
After 12 blind levels of 40 minutes each, just 59 players from the field survived with the top 30 players all from the local country of Lithuania.
Rytis Sandaras led the way after parlaying his opening 30,000 chip stack into a massive pile of 283,000 in chips. His brother, Aistis Sandaras also had a strong day and finished in sixth place on the leaderboard with 147,000. In between the brothers on the leaderboard were Paulius “Mellow-Peach” Mikaliunas (pictured below), Aurelijius Sipavicius, Klaudijus Bajoras, and Mantas Stikelis.
Mikuliunas had a “peach” of a hand late in the day when he flopped quad treys with pocket threes and got paid off to win a massive pot.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum was Turkey’s Ant Gokcek, who has called Lithuania his home for many years. He bagged just one chip valued at 5,000, which, although minuscule, is better than many other players who fired one or more bullets only to come up empty-handed on Day 1a.
“I will win this,” Gokcek said after he put his single chip in a bag. “I just need to double up a few times in the first few hands.”
While the odds are against Gokcek making a run, he did manage to qualify earlier in the day via a €30 satellite, and we wish him the best of luck in making his predicted Cinderella story a reality.
Although the stakes are serious, the atmosphere is nothing but fun, with players enjoying banter throughout the day. Additionally, if a player cracks pocket queens, kings, or aces while holding pocket jacks throughout the Main Event, they will be awarded a special Jacks of June cocktail.
Wednesday boasts the final two opening flights, with Day 1b kicking off at noon with the same 40-minute blind levels as Day 1a, followed by the turbo-charged Day 1c featuring faster 25-minute blind levels. The players can re-enter throughout the opening flights and during the first level of Thursday’s Day 2 when blind levels are increased to one hour each.

Edikas Jurgutis min-raised from under the gun and was called by Arminas Skardzius from one seat over, Aleksej Tichonov from the button, Paulius Mikaliunas (pictured below) from the small blind, and Ignas Lasauskas from the big blind to bring five players to the flop.
The players in the blinds checked before Jurgutis continued for 5,500. Two players called in Tichonov and Mikaliunas, who is also known in the Lithuanian poker community as Mellow-Peach.
Mikaliunas checked the turn before Jurgutis fired out for 15,000. Tichonov called before Mikaliunas went into the tank. Mikaliunas jammed for about 60,000, and it was Jurgitis's turn to tank. A couple of minutes later he folded before Tichonov snap-called off his stack of 37,500 only to find out he was drawing dead.

Paulius Vaitiekunas, also known online as D3cor, has had quite a year so far. Not only did he cash in a $100K buy-in event in March at the Triton Poker High Roller Series Jeju in South Korea, but he also won the $25K Silver Main Event at Triton a week earlier for $1.1 million.
As tracked by The Hendon Mob, Vaitiekunas accumulated more than $2.5 million in cashes in live poker tournaments, and he is racking up much more in the online arena.
The Lithuanian poker pro might be significantly stepping down in buy-ins but in a way not a step down in prestige. The Triton put him on the world stage, but he still hasn't achieved a victory at an international event at Olympic Casino Vilnius.
As Vaitiekunas continues his poker journey, we wish him the best of luck in his pursuit of etching his name in the Lithuanian poker history books.

Abraham Uittenbogaard limped from the cutoff. Arturas Dauksevic raised to 2,800 and Uittenbogaard called.
Uittenbogaard donk-bet 2,300 on the flop and Dauksevic called. After this, the hand became a bit unorthodox with some betting in the dark.
A 1,000 bet was fired out in the dark by Uittenbogaard before the turn and Dauksevic called. A repeat of a 1,000 bet was committed in the dark before the river completed the board. Dauksevic looked at his opponent's stack before he jammed.
Uittenbogaard snap-called for his 16,000 stack and turned over the for the top pair. Dauksevic shook his head while tabling the before paying off his opponent.

Vitalijus Kuzmicius would have earned a special cocktail if we went back in time to the Vilnius Ace Breaker after cracking Vasilij Barna's pocket rockets. Instead, he tried to console a dejected Barna after the following hand without a cocktail.
Barna (pictured below) got what appeared to be around a starting stack in preflop and was miles ahead after both Barna and Kuzmicius turned over their cards.

The flop appeared to be safe and Barna was still far ahead after the turn. However, the spiked the river for Kuzmicius to nail his four-outer to a straight to claim Barna's chips and take the overall chip lead.

Dauksevic led out for 2,200, which was enough for Stikelis to fold, but not before Mast called. Mast called a bet of 5,500 on the turn before Dauksevic jammed for a little bit more than the 23,000 Mast had behind on the river.
Mast tanked for about a minute before he folded. We will never know if it was a good fold as both players mucked their hands before Dauksevic began to pile up his newly earned chips.

Welcome to the coverage of the inaugural OlyBet Vilnius Showdown Jacks of June at Olympic Casino Vilnius.
For the next four days, our focus will be on the festival's marque event, the €150,000 guaranteed €555 NLH Main Event.
The Main Event boasts three opening flights with the action kicking off on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with Day 1a. The other two opening flights take place on Wednesday at 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Players will begin with 30,000 in chips and can re-enter not only throughout all 12 levels of the opening flights but also during the first blind level of Thursday's Day 2 before late registration officially closes. Blinds will increase every 40 minutes during the first two opening flights, with tomorrow's Day 1c playing along a little faster with 25-minute blind levels.
