The third and final starting day of the 2017 888Live Poker Festival Barcelona €1,100 Main Event promised to be big – and it certainly was. A total of 325 entries at Casino Barcelona brings the total field so far to 610 entries, easily eclipsing the €500,000 guarantee.
Registration remains open until Day 2 starts at 2pm today after which the prize pool will be confirmed.
Defending 888Live champion Catalin Pop is still on track to make it back-to-back Main Event titles; he has already won €40,000 here at Casino Barcelona after beating MainEventTravel’s Fraser MacIntyre in the €2 High Roller two days ago. Pop needed a few extra bullets and managed to bag up 115,000, good enough for more than average when the action resumes on Day 2.
It was a tight race for the lead in the last in the last two levels of 1c last night but ultimately it was Norway's Terje Sirenes (253,900) who edged out American pro Alec Torelli (244,900) at the top of the counts.
Other big stacks and notables through to Day 2 include Will Kassouf (192,200) and Cate Hall (163,200). Also still in is Isabel Baltazar, who had a big score here at Casino Barcelona in 2011 when she finished eighth in the EPT Barcelona Main Event, along with 888 Ambassador Bruno Politano, Scottish player Gordon Huntly, who was sixth in the €2k High Roller, French veteran Paul Testud and Ireland’s James Grogan. Including the 120 survivors, there are currently 197 players who have a stack for Day 2.
