Love's (Not So) Young Dream

By Mad Harper

Shortly after Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov grabbed headlines in the WSOP $10k Tag Team event – both winning their first gold bracelet – another dream couple were enjoying a deep run in the $1k Tag Team event.

 John Duthie Barny Boatman

EPT founder/partypokerLive President John Duthie and WSOP bracelet winner Barny Boatman finished the event in 105th place for $750 apiece.

The pair have known each other for decades and when Duthie founded the EPT in 2004, Boatman – and fellow Hendon Mobsters Joe Beevers, Ram Vaswani and Barny’s actor brother Ross – were all stalwart supporters attending most events.

Boatman now has four WSOP cashes this year including 397th in the Seniors, 154th in a $565 PLO and 238th in the $1,500 NL tourney. Duthie cashed in the mighty WSOP Collussus event, finishing 873rd (out of 18,504 entrants) for $1,735. Boatman won his WSOP bracelet tin 2013 in the $1,500 NL tourney for $546,080 and is currently ranked 21st on the UK all time money list, and Duthie 26th.

There were 843 entries in the $1k Tag Team event generating a $758,700 prize pool; Nipun Java and Aditya Sushant from India took it down for a combined $150k, and their first WSOP bracelets. Several other British teams also cashed: James Rann & Andrew Hedley were 34th for  $1,753 each; Luke and Jay Yerby were 97th for $781 apiece while Adam and Natalie Bromley were 101st for $749 each.
