Goliath is Europe’s biggest poker tournament and it’s staggering to see how much it’s grown since its launch in 2011 – especially compared to the World Series or Aussie Millions.
The 2019 Goliath Main Event kicks off July 27 with a £100 + £25 buy-in – and seven starting flights in total. Check out the Goliath event page for great accommodation near the venue.
The Goliath Main Event has grown by nearly 20% a year – compared to just 3% for the Aussie Million and 9% for the WSOP. There were 1,765 entries for the debut Goliath in 2011 and more than four times that number last year – a gigantic field of 7,500 entries. A total of 734 players finished in the money, with champion Florian Duta taking £101,450 for his win.
Grosvenor Casinos estimates that nearly 19,000 hands were being dealt every hour on Day 1 of the event last year and the huge number of entries meant the prize pool soared to £754,450.
This year’s Goliath promises to be even bigger, with an army of poker players – from first-timers to seasoned poker pros - preparing to descend on the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. With a guaranteed first prize of £100,000, organisers are anticipating more than 8,000 entries and a prize pool of over £800,000. There are tons of side events on the schedule as well including the National 25/50 Event from July 24-28 and two-day £300 + £35 Super High Roller from August 3-4.
The Goliath is a chance for players of all kinds to compete in Europe’s biggest tournament for just £100 + £25. With a guaranteed £100,000 for first prize, the Goliath Main Event headlines 11 days of rip-roaring action – so get yourself booked in now to avoid disappointment.
