MET Poker Guide: What’s on in March

There’s a ton of poker on in March with events right across Europe and beyond. Many have luscious guarantees, with buy-ins to sort players of all levels. GUKPT

Following a brilliant season opener in London, the GUKPT heads north for GUKPT Manchester at the end of the month. Leg 2 of the tour starts this Sunday with the £20,000 guarantee Mini Main. The £200,000 guarantee Main Event starts on Thursday, March 1. Grosvenor Ambassador Andy Hills took down the last GUKPT in Manchester, just a few months after winning the Grosvenor Passport prize which awarded him free entry into all the 2017 GUKPT Main Events.

 

Britain’s Andrew Hulme won the first GUKPT of the year in London. He beat a 433-strong field to take down the event at the Poker Room above the Vic. It was a career-best cash of £112,400 for Hulme who has now won clocked up more than $750k in live tournament winnings. Runner-up Dean Swift, who is married to Grosvenor Ambassador Katie, also scored the best cash of his live poker career, taking £73,600 for his second-place finish. Others who made the money included Kully Sidhu, Scott Kateian, Les Kearney and Grosvenor Ambassador Will Kassouf who finished 16th for £3,500.

 

Following GUKPT Manchester, the GUKPT heads to Edinburgh with a week-long festival starting April 22.

 

888Live Bucharest

After starting 2018 in style at Aspers Casino London with the hugely successful “Kick Off” event, 888Live heads to Romania in March for 888Live Bucharest. The €288,000 guarantee Main Event starts on March 2 at the JW Marriott Hotel with Day 1a; Day 1b is on March 3. Also on the schedule are a €60 Ladies Event, €100+100+30 Super Progressive Knockout and €2,200 High Roller.

 

WPT & 888poker

March also sees the debut WPT500 in London. 888poker are joining forces with the WPT for the first time to create the £1,000,000 guarantee event which gives players multiple chances to cash in the same event. The unique formula will combine an online Day 1 on 888poker with live Day 1s at three Aspers Casino around the UK: Stratford in London as well as Aspers Newcastle and Milton Keynes. All the Day 1s have a $565 buy-in and will play down to the money – so everyone through to Day 2 will already have cashed at least once. The Online Day 1 on 888poker takes place on March 11 with live Day 1s running at three Aspers Casinos starting from March 23. Aspers Stratford will have four starting days from March 23-25, then five more from March 29-31. The Aspers Casinos in Newcastle and Milton Keynes will each host three starting days from March 23-25. Day 2 and the final day will both take place at Aspers Casino in Stratford.

 

WPTDeepStacks Brussels is running March 5-11 at Grand Casino Brussels Viage. Along with the €1,100 Main Event, the schedule also includes a €2,200 High Roller, a €300 PLO Turbo and the €400 Viage Poker Cup. The Main Event has three start flights – Day 1a on March 8, Day 1b on March 9 and a Day 1c “Fast Chance” Turbo at 10p the same day. We have tons of great hotels in Brussels so why not take the chance to visit Europe’s capital! WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville is running in Florida from March 9-12. This is a $1,500 buy-in event with $300,000 guarantee. There’s a single re-entry per flight and players can take their best stack forward.

The WPT’s main tour has two big events in March: the WPT Rolling Thunder Main Event starts March 2 with a $3,200 buy-in and two start days. Following that, it’s Brazil Poker Live presents: WPT Argentina from March 15-19 in Casino Iguazú. This is an amazing chance to see Iguazu Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world! The dates for the WPT Argentina Main Event are March 14-19.

 

Partypoker is also off to South America in March with the Latin American Poker Championship at Enjoy Conrad Resort & Casino in the stunning Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este. Situated in the ‘St Tropez of South America,’ Punta del Este provides a classy location for the $1 million GTD LAPC Main Event! Day 1A kicks-off 28th February. Players who progress any of the four Day 1s will take a seat at Day 2 (2nd March) in search of LAPC glory. Alongside the $1 million GTD Main Event, five further scheduled tournaments create a massive $2 million GTD prize pool for the festival. The $220 buy-in Open Day begins the festival 24th February, boasting a generous $200k GTD prize pool!

 

partypoker is also hitting up Ireland in March with the Grand Prix Irish Open at CityWest. The €500,000 guaranteed Grand Prix Irish Open Main Event kicks-off the Irish Poker Festival, offering you the chance to scoop a massive payday from a small buy-in! The Irish Open is the longest running NL poker tournament in Europe and one of the world’s most prestigious and lively poker festivals.

 

Super Stack® has two great events running in March. Super Stack Red Series Spain runs March 1-4 with a €170 buy-in event at Casino Admiral San Roque (near Gibraltar) while Super Stack Platinum Series Spain is happening ten days later with a €340 Platinum event at Casino Marbella. The Super Stack Spain Red Series kick off with a Day 1a on Thursdays at 8pm, with Day 1b the same time again on Friday. But if you’re short on time, you can fly in on Saturday for Day 1C which starts at 7pm local time. The final day starts Sunday at 2pm.

Meanwhile in Vegas, players are eagerly awaiting the Venetian’s March Extravaganza. Running March 12-18 at one of the most glamorous casino properties on the Strip, the festival features 12 different tournaments offers more than $400,000 in guaranteed prize pools with the flagship $200,000 guaranteed Super Stack starting March 14.

 

Platinum Passes galore

In Asia, we have APPT Macau to look forward to next month. This is a massive PokerStars festival running March 14-25 at Macau’s City of Dreams casino resort. As well as the HK$40,000 Main Event, the festival features a HK$400,000 Super High Roller and HK$100,000 High Roller, both with unlimited re-entries. This year’s APPT Macau will also be awarding several $30,000 Platinum Passes for the PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship which takes place next January in the Bahamas.

Day 1a starts 5pm on March 23, with 1b at 3pm on March 24 and the final on Sunday, March 25.
