Patrik Antonius, one of the best poker players in the world, is set to compete at this year’s Battle of Malta. Antonius, who has won more than $11 million at live poker tournaments and many more millions online, will be taking part in the €550 Battle of Malta Main Event in October.
Antonius took up poker professionally 18 years ago after turning a $200 online deposit into $20,000 in just a few months. The biggest winner in online poker history and is also ranked 52nd in the all time money list for live tournaments. Antonius, who lives with his family in Monte Carlo, also holds the record for winning the biggest pot in online poker history. It was back in 2009 in a cash game against Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom and he snagged $1,346,946 – in one hand!
The 37-year-old Finn has already had a very active and successful year on the live poker circuit – including winning the biggest cash of his live tournament career. In March he won a career-best $3,153,551 for his runner-up finish to Justin Bonomo in the Super High Roller Bowl China in Macau and he has also competed in Rozvadov, Monte Carlo, the WSOP, Sochi and Barcelona.
Antonius, who hails from Helsinki, has numerous titles to his name including EPT Baden champion in 2005 and winning the partypoker MILLIONS Super High Roller event in Rozvadov in February this year. According to HighStakesDB he accumulated online winnings in excess of $11 million on Full Tilt between 2008 and 2013 and nearly $6 million on PokerStars from 2007 to 2016.
This year’s Battle of Malta is set to be the biggest yet and a huge turnout is expected for the six-day festival; there will be three start flights with Day 1c certainly expected to sell out. The festival is being held in a spacious new location at the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre from October 25-30.
