GUKPT London has smashed all records with a total of 435 entries for this year’s tourney making it the biggest Main Event in GUKPT history. Yesterday’s Day 1b attracted 274 entries – and 154 players in total are through to Day 2. A huge number of well-known players competed at the event including many who haven’t been seen on the tour in years alongside numerous tour regulars. The event is being held at The Poker Room, above the iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino on Edgware Road.

Paul Romain is leading the Day 2 charge after bagging up 180,000 in chips. Romain already has more than $230k in live tournament winnings; his biggest cash to date was a runner-up finish in a £60 buy-in partypoker Grand Prix NL event in October 2015. The event attracted 1,015 players and he cashed for £23,000 after being beaten heads-up by Benjamin Preece.
Also still in contention for the gigantic £113,000 first prize are GUKPT sponsored pro Jeff Kimber, last year’s winner Martin Hogarty, Steve Warburton, Aditya Agarwal, Marc Foggin and actor Ross Boatman – one of the founding members of the Hendon Mob. Day 1a survivors included Simon Deadman, Spanish #1 Adrian Mateos and Javier Zapatero.
2017 is the GUKPT’s 11th consecutive season and promises to provide another record breaking year with a packed schedule and staggering £1,800,000 in Main and Mini Main guarantees. There will be nine legs in total this year before the GUKPT Grand Final takes place at the Vic in London in November.
