The week-long extravaganza kicks off at CityWest on March 27 with tons of satellites, MILLIONS events, PLO, NL and heads-up tourneys before the €500,000 guarantee Main Event starts on Thursday. Last year Irish player Dan Wilson took it down for €150,000 after beating a giant field of 802 players. The €801,500 prize pool massively beat the event’s €500k guarantee and 95 players finished in the money. Previous winners include Patrick Clark, Ian Simpson, Kevin Vandersmissen, Niall Smyth, James Mitchell, Christer Johansson, Neil Channing, Marty Smyth, John Falconer and Joe Beevers – along with current TD Liam Flood, who won it in both 1990 and 1996.
First organised in 1981 by maverick Irish bookmaker Terry Rogers, the tournament has become a fixture on the international poker calendar attracting players from all over the world, along with an enormous Irish contingent.
