Las Vegas Hotel Lowdown

By Mad Harper

It’s said that there are more hotel rooms in Las Vegas than in any other city in the world –130,000 and counting – so you’ll be spoilt for choice when you head to Sin City. On our travel booking pages for Las Vegas you can check out a vast range of hotels from super-budget options like the Strat and Rio right up to the ultra-modern luxury of ARIA or the tranquil elegance of the Four Seasons. Our hotel search function is super-useful for Vegas, giving you the ability to search by price or location.

NEAR THE VENUE

If you want to stay near the WSOP’s new home on the Strip at the Horseshoe Casino (pictured above), then obviously staying AT the Horseshoe property itself is the way to go!

Paris Las Vegas (pictured below) is another great option with many of the events taking place in the events rooms.

Other nearby properties include the Cromwell Hotel and Casino, the Flamingo, Planet Hollywood and Caesars. The Linq Hotel, Bellagio, Harrah’s and Aria are all also a relatively easy walk from the Horseshoe ie less than half a mile. Check out our competitive rates on our Vegas Travel Pages.

 BUDGET OPTIONS

The Strat

Marked out by its distinctive 1,149-foot SkyPod and only 15 minutes from Harry Reid International Airport, the STRAT (pictured below) is a great option if you’re on a budget and has a ton of amenities that will give you the full Vegas hotel experience including two swimming pools (the 15,000 square foot, resort-style Elation Pool and the Wet24 Adult Pool & Bar), multiple dining options, a fitness centre and an 80,000 square foot casino where there is live DJ entertainment every night. The modern rooms include a flat-screen cable TV with pay-per-view channels with seating area, work desk and free toiletries in the ensuite bathrooms. The SkyPod, with its Observation Decks, thrill rides and even a chapel for sky-high weddings, and Top of the World restaurant, is a destination in itself.

Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino

The former home of the WSOP is another great budget option located close to the Strip (pictured below). With 2,522 air-conditioned rooms, there’s also a full-service spa and salon, four outdoor swimming pools, six restaurants, 10,000 square metre casino and – of course – a gargantuan conference centre. Each spacious suite at the Rio offers panoramic views along with mini-bar and an in-suite safe with separate dressing area.

The Golden Gate Hotel

The Golden Gate Hotel (pictured below) is located downtown and is the oldest hotel in Vegas with a history dating back to 1906. Staying here puts you at the heart of the Fremont Street Experience and is a short stroll from any number of downtown restaurants, bars and clubs. There’s no poker room at the Golden Gate but the large casino has no shortage of gaming options including blackjack, craps, roulette and slots. The rooms are modern, blending traditional style with amenities such as 32-inch flat-screen TV, computer ports and free toiletries in the ensuite bathrooms. While there is no pool or gym on site, guests are free to use facilities at the Golden Gate’s sister hotel – the D – located just five minutes’ walk away.

MID-RANGE HOTEL OPTIONS

The Mirage

The Mirage (pictured below) is a gorgeous property in a prime location on the Strip. Now owned and operated by the Hard Rock chain, this elegant hotel is a tropical refuge in the centre of Las Vegas. It is famed for its Polynesian-themed décor, unique dolphin and wild animal habitat, gorgeous pools, spa and full-service casino. The rooms are stylish and spacious with modern furnishings including a 42-inch flat-screen cable TV, Bluetooth speakers, USB sockets and free high-speed internet. The pools at the Mirage are fantastic, with large, natural-form pools, waterfalls, a private oasis, and a 21+ top-optional pool called Bare. There’s a large variety of dining options, including fine dining at Tom Colicchio Heritage Steak and the Osteria Costa Restaurant. One of the hotel’s main attractions is a replica lava-flowing volcano which erupts nightly – on the hour, every hour – providing free entertainment right in front of the resort.

New York New York

Boasting a 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty and an adrenaline-pumping roller coaster, New York New York (pictured below) is close to all the action on the Strip and an exhilarating place to stay for your Vegas trip. There’s a state-of-the-art casino, seasonal outdoor pool with private cabanas, live entertainment such as the adults-only “Zumanity” Cirque de Soleil show and numerous restaurants – including a buffet steakhouse, piano bar and an Irish pub. The Nine Fine Irishman is an authentic hostelry which was built in Ireland and then shipped to the resort. The spacious, modern rooms come equipped with a flat-screen cable TV, granite bathrooms and a work desk.

 Luxor

This Ancient-Egypt-themed resort is a real landmark on the Las Vegas Strip. The black glass and steel, 30-storey pyramid-shaped building is around 75% of the scale of the Great Pyramid of Giza and is one of the most iconic sights in Sin City. At night, the Sky Beam shines out from the tip of the pyramid with a light so powerful it’s allegedly visible from aircraft flying out of Los Angeles. Inside, the giant Sphinx is even taller than its antique counterpart in Egypt. Luxor (pictured below) is located right on the Strip and features a huge casino along with live entertainment, a full-service spa, four large pools and the largest atrium in the world. The comfortable rooms have multiple charging and power outlets, sitting areas and safes. The Nurture Spa and Salon offers an assortment of beauty treatments and 24-hour fitness centre. A steam bath, dry sauna and hot tubs are available at the spa. The 120,000 square feet casino has a poker room along with sportsbook betting area with plasma TVs.

LUXURY HOTELS

Aria

ARIA (pictured below) is one of the best hotels in Vegas and a comfortable walk from the Horseshoe. This luxury resort on the Strip showcases breath-taking panoramic views from every room. The hotel, which won awards for its environmental design and has a five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, features two curvilinear glass towers rising up to 50 storeys, and has more than 4,000 rooms and suites. Bringing the concept of an ultra-modern skyscraper to Las Vegas, this is a beautiful contemporary resort with modern architecture, a unique design and floor-to-ceiling windows in every room. The non-smoking rooms are high-tech with plush furnishings and a range of amenities including keyless locks, automated heating, light, music and curtains.

Four Seasons

Located adjacent to Mandalay Resort & Casino, the Four Seasons (pictured below) is one of the only non-gaming and non-smoking hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. That makes it a tranquil oasis when you want a break from the ubiquitous clatter of casino slot machines. With a Forbes Five-Star Spa and secluded quiet pool with guest-only private cabanas, this is a deluxe option for your Vegas trip. The rooms are enormous and the signature marble bathrooms are totally luxurious. We also recommend Veranda, the inside-outside Italian restaurant that’s actually one of the best places in Vegas for a power breakfast.

Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace

The world's first-ever Nobu Hotel (pictured below) is a delight ... a boutique hotel with a distinct air of quiet luxury. Situated on the Las Vegas Strip, the hotel features an outdoor swimming pool, spa and sauna, casino and restaurant. The Japanese-inspired rooms have free Wi-Fi, 55-inch flat-screen TV, iPod docking station and Natura Bisse toiletries in the en suite bathroom. Crafted by Robert DeNiro and Chef Nobu, the property has a number of high-end shops on site. Pamper options include in-room massage along with various treatments in the spa. Nobu Hotel emanates style and sophistication – no wonder it was named Best Boutique Hotel by Vegas Seven.
