Day 1b is over and DJ Sharma and Keagan Ballard both bagged massive stacks. Sharma is the leader with 561k while Ballard isn't too far behind at 531.5k. Johnny Yu is a distant 3rd bagging up 283.5k while Garett Maybery, John Donnelly, and Patricia Kanada all bagged 200k or more.

Dino Rajabi was the unfortunate bubble tonight on Day 1b of the Main. He raised the button and big stack DJ Sharma called from the big blind.

It all kicked off on the flop when Sharma check-called the shove from Rajabi. Rajabi flopped a pair of jacks with but Sharma was on a club draw with .

The turn brought the flush for Sharma, but he wasn't done sweating as it also gave Rajabi two pair and outs to the riverboat. on the river was the brickiest of bricks though and Sharma took it down to end Day 1b.

DJ Sharma is in the lead as the final 18 players head to the break following Level 14. He hero-called the river in a big hand against Stephen Dauphinais just before the break. He had an overpair to the board but there was a possible straight as well. Another player called the clock on him and just seconds before time expired he called and his queens were good against the ace-high bluff from Dauphinais.

The pot left him with 420k and the chip lead while John Donnelly, who won a Main Event on the PPT last year, has a bit more than 250k for what looks like the second stack. Jason Heang is playing about 230k and Tjenno Eskes has about 200k in front of him to start Level 15.

There are just under 10 minutes left in the dinner break now with entries set to close when dinner is complete. I had a quick wander around the room on dinner, and it looks like DJ Sharma is the chip leader at the moment with 242k. Jason Heang, who was runner-up in the Main Event in February up in Edmonton, looks to be second with 175k while Colten Yamagishi, who I am seeing for the first time in today's flight, has just shy of 100k in front of him.

The dinner break is now on with entries set to close at the end of the break in about 35 minutes. The 1b field is up to 87 now for a two-day total of 146 entries and prizes of $137,313.

Play tonight will continue until they hit 12.5% of the field, which looks like it will be 11 or 12 players qualifying from 1b added to the 8 players who qualified from 1a. Day 2 will start at the earliest blind levels for a Day 1 end and despite the bigger field today, I expect 1b to finish before the marathon 1a did last night. That said, I didn't expect 1a to turn into a marathon either, so who knows.

There are now 38 players in their seats for the start of Level 2 of Day 1b. That puts the two-day field up to 97 entries now for combined prizes of $91,229.

Day 1b is underway now with action in Level 1 and 42 players in their seats for a prize pool of $85,586 across both days. I'm not on the floor quite yet as I slept a bit late today. I'm going to finish up some of yesterday's admin work like winners posts, etc, and I should be at the casino by the first break.

Day 1a is in the books with 59 entries and 8 players qualifying for Day 2. The leader from the opening flight was the 2024 Pure Poker Tour ambassador, Haven Taylor, proving she is far more than just a pretty face. As the Woman Player of the Year for the API last year, Taylor has been crushing on the felt lately, and she ended her Day 1a run with more than 200k more than the next place stack, Julius Roque's 247k.

Players who had no luck on 1a will have another shot at a bag for the Main Event on Saturday's Dau 1b. Once again, the action kicks off at 1 pm, and they'll have entries open until 8:30 PM. Blinds will increase every 40 minutes, and as with 1a, they'll play until 12.5% of the field is hit. Day 2 will then begin at the earliest blind level that 1a or 1b stopped at. 1a played into Level 18, so it seems likely 1b will finish sooner, but that remains to be seen.

As today was a long day, I'm not sure I'll be in the casino for the opening levels of 1b. I'll do my best to be on the floor before the first break, and will likely update numbers remotely before then, but full coverage should kick in by ~3 PM or so.
