The countdown is on with just over two weeks to go before the £1 million guaranteed UK Poker Open festival gets underway in Coventry on February 24 with Event 1.
The Main Event – known as the UK Open – starts March 1 and comes with a £1 million guaranteed prize pool.
The full festival is taking place from February 19 to March 5 and is being held at the Grosvenor Casino Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena, home to the annual Goliath festival, with satellites running from February 19 until Event 1 kicks off February 24.
The UK Open features a £1,500 buy-in Main Event, a 30,000 starting stack, and has five different starting flights, 3 flights feature a 40-minute clock, and 2 turbo flights with 20-minute clock. Late registration is open until Day 2, and Day 2 & 3 have a 60-minute clock
In addition to the flagship tournament, there are nearly 20 other events on the UK Poker Open schedule. This includes the popular new £550 GUKPT Cup, a two-day £115 Ladies UK Championship, a £200 + £200 + £40 Mystery Bounty tournament, the Mini UK Open with a £340 buy-in, a £2k UK Open High Roller and a £150 Seniors tournament. The schedule also gives players plenty of opportunities to win their way into tournaments with a bunch of super satellites also running at the venue.
As always, MainEventTravel.com, the GUKPT’s Official Travel Partner, can help players with all their travel needs for the UK Poker Open. Convenient hotels near the Coventry Building Society Arena venue include the DoubleTree and the Novotel.
Grosvenor Ambassador Katie Swift, a passionate champion of Ladies' events, will be hosting the two-day £115 Ladies UK Championship at the UK Poker Open.
She said: “The UK Poker Open is actually going to be my first live event of the year so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s fantastic that a new festival has been created that has a £1 million guaranteed Main Event. British poker players are buzzing about it. Coventry is also a great location for players and it’s my personal favourite Grosvenor Casino. Fingers crossed for success there next month!”
Ambassador Jamie Nixon, who won his first GUKPT title at the Grand Final in London at the end of last year, said: “The UK Poker Open looks incredible. People were saying just a few short years ago that the live scene was dying and here we are with a £1m guaranteed tournament! Things are going from strength to strength and I can’t wait to be involved in this massive event.”
Nixon was among several players who won seats worth £1,500 for the UK Poker Open at the Grand Final. Several more scooped tickets after heading the end of Day 1 chip counts at the recent GUKPT London Main Event including Devan-Kumar Patel, Rajiv Sakaria, and Steven Watts.
