For Matt Davenport, GUKPT London will mark his first outing as a member of Team Grosvenor. The 47-year-old from Macclesfield, who kept up an unassailable lead for months to become the 2022 Grosvenor Player of the Year, plans to play all the GUKPTs this year along with the new UK Poker Open and Goliath in July. He said: “I’m hoping for another successful year but it’s a bit much to expect a repeat of last year! I’m very proud to be wearing the Grosvenor patch and hopefully I will represent the brand well both in this country and overseas. The sponsorship has given me more freedom to have a shot at bigger buy-in events, so as well as the GUKPTs, I also hope to play EPTs and WPTs. Bankroll management is a big part of any poker player’s thoughts so that effective extra £40k is massive.”
Huge numbers are expected at the forthcoming GUKPT London after last January’s season opener became the biggest ever GUKPT Main Event in the tour’s history. Tim Chung took top honours last January after beating a 702-entry field to win £185,560.
