Golubevs wins WPT500 Main Event at Dusk Till Dawn

The return of the WPT500 at Dusk Till Dawn has been a resounding success with more than 895 entries for the £500,000 guaranteed Main Event. Aleksandrs Golubevs took down the £560 buy-in tourney for a monster first prize of £100,000 after beating Dale Hancock heads-up.

Golubevs was the Day 1b chip leader and managed to translate that early dominance into a title-winning achievement. It was the best live cash of his career to date but he already has a string of great results to his name. His total live tournament winnings now exceed $500,000 and include victory in the Dusk Till Dawn £1k 8-Max back in 2018 for £23,855.

Hancock took £60k for his runner-up finish, more than doubling his live tournament winnings to date. In all, 135 of the Main Event field made money including Chris Da-Silva who finished eighth. 

It’s been seven years since the prestigious festival was held at DTD, and players enthusiastically greeted the event’s return. In addition to the Main Event, the WPT500 also featured a £2,200 Super High Roller which attracted 50 entries and a £1,100 High Roller with 159 entrants.

McCann wins Super High Roller

Jonathan McCann (pictured above with final tablists) added yet another title to his impressive run of recent results after taking down the WPT500 £2,200 buy-in Super High Roller. He bested a 50-strong field and took home £31,475 as part of a heads-up deal with Daniel Jackson. McCann has been on fire lately and is certainly one to watch at this year’s World Series of Poker. Since he started competing in live tourneys in 2008, he has racked up over $1 million in winnings and has won more than £270,000 this year alone.  Runner-up Jackson took £28,275 while Nottingham native Wadey Ashraf – also on fire this year after significant cashes at the Irish Open – was third for £15,250.

WPT500 High Roller

Marc Foggin won the £1,100 High Roller for £29,615 after besting the 159-entry field. The tough final table included Matt Davenport (3rd, 13,230), Jonathan McCann – who won the Super High Roller only a few days earlier, Charles Chattha and Dutch poker legend Marcel Luske. 

The WPT500 Main Event took place over the end-of-May bank holiday (May 26-29). 

Dusk Till Dawn hosted the first UK version of the WPT500 back in 2014. There were 2,133 entries with Eleanor Gudger winning £140,000. In 2015, Swansea player Richard Harris outlasted a 1,615-entry field to win £150,000. At the last Dusk Till Dawn edition of the WPT500 in 2016, there were 1,835 entries with British pro Ben Winsor snagging the £182,700 top prize.
