Sunil Mistri Wins the Mega Series Main Event
By Jason Glatzer
Sunil Mistri was the star of the Mega Series at Lola’s Underground Casino located on the bottom floor of the PokerStars at the Hippodrome Casino after he defeated Dost Ghrabie head-up to win the Mega Series £1,100 Main Event title for £32,825 top prize.
Mistri began the final table near the bottom of the pack but doubled through Ghrabie early on to be near the top of the heap before eventually claiming the title.
Ghrabie also had an amazing day. Not only did he take down the runner-up prize of £22,347 but also won an eight-day trip to join Team Hippo in Las Vegas thanks to the ‘Spin to Win’ promotion. The final 36 players all had a chance to win this prize as they all selected a number on the roulette wheel. Ghrabie’s number came up and the room erupted with applause.
The action was buzzing throughout the weekend with 141 entries getting into the mix during the two opening flights to create a £136,770 prize pool.
Many big names that finished in the money included Sebastian Jung (fifth - £9,779), PokerStars at the Hippodrome Ambassador Chris Da Silva (sixth - £7,659), Harry Lodge (13th place - £2,395), Kully Sidhu (16th - £1,985), and Andy Wilson (20th - £1,780) also finished in the money. Meanwhile, French poker superstar Sylvain Loosli was less fortunate as he made the final day only to hit the rail before the money bubble broke.
Also of note was that defending champion Yuval Rosenberg (fourth - £12,173) was busy making another deep run in the Mega Series Main Event. Despite being near the chip lead during four-handed play, Rosenberg lost most of his stack to Ghrabie before Mistri grabbed the rest of his stack.

Jonathan Schuman Nails the Jackpot in the Mystery Bounty
The Mega Series Main Event wasn’t the only game in town as the Mega Series hosted a handful of other events including the £440 Mystery Bounty Event.
Jonathan Schuman shined above all others as not only did he win the event for £7,007 after agreeing to a three-way deal with Jowen Orrell and Vitalii Seman but also hit the jackpot on the bounties as well. Schuman claimed many bounties along the way including the top mystery bounty prize of £7,500! As if this isn’t enough, he will be joining this author and many others at the Malta Poker Festival from April 24 to May 1 thanks to winning a package at this prestigious event.
Laura Glasgow Wins the Ladies Event
The £175 Ladies Event (final table pictured below) was much anticipated by many in attendance and certainly added to the vibe at Lola’s Underground Casino with tons of positive energy being felt everywhere.
Laura Glasgow defeated Sylvia Cole heads-up to win the £1,534 top prize while Friend at the PokerStars at the Hippodrome Lydia Cugudda was also on the podium with a third-place performance.
This wasn’t the only news of the day as this event wrapped up the Ladies Leaderboard sponsored by The Hippodrome. Anya Stevenson and DeAnna Dobosz finished in the top two spots and will join Team Hippo in Sin City this summer.
Michael Plotek Wins the Turbo
Michael Plotek won the final event in the £250 Turbo Bounty for £933 plus bounties after defeating Lewis Coffin in heads-up action.
Andrei Popa, Gregory Jones, and Min Ji also cashed in this event. Ji had a deep run in the Main Event before bowing up before the money but after he cashed the Turbo was on the rail until the end of the Main Event rooting his friend Mistri to victory.
